The stories can be about any away trip involving Everton, be it the trip there or back or even incidents during the match. On the morning of Saturday, April 15 1989, I boarded a coach outside Barnes Travel, County Road Walton with a good mate of mine, Jeff Winters. We had grown up together in Fazakerley so it was poignant this story should involve Jeff, as it was with Jeff I’d gone to see my first Everton match – a 3-1 victory over Swansea City at Goodison Park in 1981. Howard Kendall was player/manager that day and a certain Bob Latchford netted a consolation for the opposition.
